Computer Parts needed to build a Basic Personal Computer:

Part Description
Motherboard Motherboard: Where the RAM (memory), the CPU, Expansion Cards are installed, it has various power connectors to power computer parts, has pins (Headers) to connect ports (HD audio, USB 3.0) and Fans. Everything starts with the Motherboard, it will dictate what kind of CPU to use, what kind of RAM to use, what kind of expansion cards it can use, what kind of computer case to use. It also specify the type of CPU socket it uses, and the kind of Chipset it uses.
Computer Desktop Case Computer Desktop Case: This is the chassis, where all the various computer parts are installed, there are 2 types a) Tower Case - it sits upright, and b) Desktop case lies flat on the desk. If you have a micro-ATX motherboard you will need a micro-ATX case, if you have a full ATX motherboard you will need a ATX case.
Central Processing Unit Central Processing Unit (CPU): Is the primary component installed on the motherboard that determines the computing power of the system. The motherboard has a specific chipset type, this means it uses a specific type of CPU, Socket type and processor architecture (32 or 64 bit). Example if the Mobo has B250 Intel chipset, you need to install an Intel type of CPU from a specific generation/series and has a 64 bit architecture, that will fit an LGA1151 socket. Always refer to the Motherboard specification to know what type of CPU type and configuration to acquire.
Power Supply Unit (PSU) Power Supply: Installed inside the corner of the desktop case, it receives and converts the house current so that computers parts can utilize it. It is ok to have a Power Supply with a greater amount of wattage capability, because the computer will draw only the amount of wattage it needs to power it parts. To know how much wattage you will need, add up all the wattage requirements of each parts, then add 3%. Never open the casing or break-apart a power supply, this is hazardous, you might get electrecuted.
CPU Fan Computer CPU Fan: It is used to cool down the CPU installed underneath, becasuse the CPU generates heat, the computer needs to draw out this heat, that is why it needs a CPU FAN, the fan has a heat sink attach to it at the bottom, it has a thermal paste spread under the heat sink, the paste is used to absorb the heat coming from the CPU. on top of the CPU FAN is a FAN, that draws the heat from the CPU, the CPU FAN basically prevents the computer from overheating. It is a good idea to know the normal heat tolerance of the CPU, you can search this through your CPU manufacturer.
DVD/RW drive DVD/RW drive: Commonly called a Optical drive. Its purpose is to read data from a disk and to write data to a disk. there are 2 common type, a DVD optical drive, that reads data only, and a DVD/RW which reads and write data to and from the dvd disk. You are building a Desktop computer, you need to acquire a DVD for a desktop computer, see image.
SSD SSD (For Quick Booting and Data Access): It is called a Solid State Drive, it has no moving parts, compared to a DVD drive, it stores data on its electornic parts. It reads and stores data very quickly, no moving heads to read/write data. Its purpose also is to speed up booting, or starting-up the computer quickly. If you are installing a operating system make this as your primary drive, so that the O/S will be installed on the SSD and for very fast booting.
LCD Monitor LCD Monitor: This is the primary viewing device, you can watch data and images, video from this device. Monitor comes in different types namely CRT, LCD, LED architecture. You attach the monitor using a VGA cable and you attach the cable to VGA port found behind the desktop computer.
Keyboard Keyboard: It is a device use to type in data, it has keys from A-Z, it has different type of function keys, this keys lets you lower or increasse the volume, open your mail app., listen to audio, copy images from the screen, to navigate from one area of the screen to another area, allows you to enter numerical values, some keyboards are designed for specific functions like playing games. The keyboard is attached to the computer via USB connections.
VGA cable VGA cable: This cable is used to connect the LCD Monitor to the computer, you the attach one end to the Monitor and the other end to the back of the desktop computer via the VGA port. You need this cable to view images on your LCD monitor.
Power Cable for PC Power Cable for PC and Monitor: The power cable is used primarily to power the LCD monitor and the computer system. For the LCD monitor you attach one end to the LCD monitor and the 3 pronge connector to the a/c outlet to power-up the Monitor. For the computer system, attach the power connector to the back of the computer and the 3 pronge connector to the a/c outlet, to power-up the computer.
Memory Memory (RAM): Holds data and instructions that the CPU process, memory modules used in motherboards are called DRAM. The motherboard has a specific type of RAM that it uses this includes the speed (Measured in MHz), size (Measured in GB), type (ex. DDR4, non-ECC, un-buffered).
SSD Bracket SSD Bracket (To hold the SSD): This metal adapter is used to hold the SSD, it is attach via screws underneath the metal bracket, after attaching the SSD to the bracket, it is then inserted into the drive bay.
Sata Data Cables Sata Data Cables: This cables are use to transmit data from the motherboard to the DVD or SSD devices. The motherboard has multiple Sata connectors, you can use them to attach the sata cables. use sata 0 for the primary dvd drive.
Thermal Paste Thermal Paste: This is a paste like substance, used to spread over a heat sink, its role is to absorb heat from the CPU, Most CPU manufacturers has thermal paste pre-installed, always check the bottom of the CPU Fan heat sink, if there is already a paste applied, do not apply the paste, if not apply only a pea size amount.
Internal Desktop Case Fan Desktop Case Fan: This device is used to draw out heat coming from the desktop. Computer parts like Ram, CPU, Expansion cards, generate heat, if the computer overheats the system will shutdown or malfunction, that is why very good ventilation and a good Desktop Case Fan to draw out the heat is very important. There are many type of Desktop Case Fan, some fans has led lighthing to give out lighting effects, makes your computer look cool.
Mouse Mouse: The primary pointing device you will use to navigate through your web application, or programs. Older Mouse comes with wires attach to it, today they come as wireless, for wirelesss mouse it has a wi-fi adapter attached to your computer, to receive signals from the mouse.
